John G. Kennedy, MD
Dr. John G. Kennedy is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. Dr kennedy sees all sports related injuries but has a particular interest in sports-related injuries of the lower limb, particularly injuries that affect the articular cartilage of the knee, ankle and foot.
Dr. Kennedy graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1989. Since then he has practiced both in Ireland & the U.S, while attaining higher degrees in the subspecialtties of Trauma, Sports injuries and Pediatric Orthopaedics.
His interest in sports medicine is generated by a long personal history in sports, where Dr. Kennedy competed at National and International levels in track, rugby, fencing, and water skiing. He was involved as assistant team physician to Boston College Football in 1994-95 while completing his Sports Medicine fellowship in Tufts University.
Since then, Dr. Kennedy has been involved in the treatment of both recreational athletes as well as elite athletes from the New York Giants, Manhattan Rugby, New York Red Bulls, St. John's University, 7Express elite mixed Ultimate Frisbee team, and the National Basketball referees association. Dr. Kennedy is also the Director of the Running Center in the gait analysis laboratory at Hospital for Special Surgery and the Director of Research for the Foot and Ankle Department.
Dr. Kennedy's involvement in all aspects of lower limb sports injuries has led him to publish over eighty peer review articles on running injuries, cycling injuries, ballet injuries, and ankle instability following sports injuries. In addition, Dr. kennedy has presented at over 100 conferences to learned societies throughout the world. He continues to pursue basic science research in areas of cartilage regeneration, sports injuries, bone healing and computer-assisted arthroscopic navigation in ankle injuries.
